9-21 – A Song By Mark Zanger

Follow along with the words as mark serenades you with his latest work. Music by Mark, lyrics inspired by William Shakespeare:

1 April’s first-born flowers and all things beyond compare
Let me truly write of loving for t’is just as fair
Those golden candles fix’d in
heaven’s air above our loving
Let them praise that purpose well
that sweetly speaks of love

9 All the moon and every sun’s light is all dark by Thee
Constant stars all share this simple and so dear decree

13 I love you in my heart as red
As poppies in the field above
I love you in my heart of love

17 Truth and beauty shall together strive as long as love
Yet truth and beauty shall ne’er
ever see the same sun of our love

21 The light of loving is our way to live another day of life
The light of loving is our star

Paul Roberts Update

Its that time of year again (already!). We will be having the program at our church as usual but not at Amana this year. Instead, we will have one performance at the Ainsworth Opera House in Ainsworth, Iowa (south of Iowa City just off of Hwy 218 or East of Washington on Hwy 92).

Fliers for both programs are attached. Hope you can make it to one, or even both, shows.

Merry Christmas and have a blessed holiday season!

Alice’s Song – a Song by Jackie Dague Nicholson

Hi Dave,

This is what I wrote to share with our class about “Alice’s Song”:

Many of you knew my parents while we were growing up, so I would like to share a song with you that I wrote about my parent’s wedding day.  It is a true story.  My mom would always tell me stories of how it snowed in Iowa on her wedding day, which was March 23rd, 1952.  She walked to church in her dress with her Dad’s rubber boots over her shoes, because of all the snow.  In an attempt to keep the story alive for our children and grandchildren, I wrote this song.  My mother, Alice, is living in Des Moines in a memory care facility and my father died 18 years ago.  Writing this song has given me comfort and I hope that you enjoy listening to it!

I’d like to thank Keith Yoder (Paul Robert’s cousin!) for helping me with the arrangement and recording.  Keith played the guitar and mandolin on this song and I played my guitar too.  I would also like to thank our web master, Dave Gerlits, for helping put this song “in the clouds” so that it can be shared with all of you!

Best wishes,

Jackie (Dague) Nicholson

Gene Hartsock’s Interesting Stories

Dave, recently on the Iowa City Facebook 70s and 80s page, there were discussions about the Black Angel in the cemetery. During the 80s also a guy wrote 2 books about baseball, one became the Field of Dreams, one was the book below (click the link to see why Gene included the Black Angel)…

The 70’s&80’s facebook site had another interesting story…I have never heard about this. I didn’t know, also we had a Czech community…I knew many farmers out by Oxford, that my dad mentioned as bohemians…
